Easy DIY Magnetic Water! Fun and Informative for the Kids!

 

This DIY is fun for the kids and also informative to them as well.  You can use this DIY to teach your kids about magnetism.  Its great for teaching because it gives visual effects on how magnetism works when you put a magnet up to the jar.  Even if your child is not old enough to learn about magnetism, they will still enjoy the amazingness of the iron oxide interacting with the magnet.  If you’re looking for other DIY’s for the kids, check out our Lego Table or our Simple Glitter Slime.  As Always, Have fun and Share your unique creations on our Facebook Page or DIYgals.com.

What you will need

  • Jar with Lid
  • 1/4 cup of baby oil
  • Iron Oxide (can be found here)
  • Water
  • small disposable cup
  • Magnet

Directions

1. Start by adding 1/4 cup of baby oil to the disposable cup.

2. Add 1/4 cup of iron oxide and stir well until the baby oil and iron oxide are well combined

3. Next, add the iron oxide and baby oil mixture to your jar.

4. Finally, fill the jar all the way with water and secure the lid. Make sure its on tight so they kids dont open it and make a mess.

Bonus Tips

  • Add a couple drops of food coloring for a little more excitement.
  • Seal the cap with some super glue so the kids can’t make a mess if they try to open it.
  • Add another magnet and watch how the iron oxide reacts.
